The weather has been hot recently in Chicago, so Dan and I took full advantage of it on our day off together last week. We love riding our bikes as much as possible; basically any non-rainy day off we have together we will ride our bikes somewhere. Last Friday we went to Pequod’s for their amazing lunch special. Monday-Friday you can get a pop and a personal pizza for just five dollars! It’s also the best deep dish pizza ever created. Afterwards we headed towards Lake Michigan so we could ride the trail. We stopped at Montrose Beach and enjoyed a walk along the edge of the water. Neither of us wore our swimsuit so we stayed out of the lake. I’m hoping we take a trip there this weekend because neither of us have to work, although I’m sure it will be pretty crowded.
Last weekend also marked my first ever attendance at a Roller Derby competition. My mom’s cousin is a blocker on the Chicago Outfit Roller Derby Team. She had a meet last weekend and I was super excited to attend. I didn’t really remember anything about it, the only time I’ve seen any roller derby was in that one movie with Ellen Page. Luckily she filled us in on the general goal of the sport and there was a diagram with the rules in a handout they gave us. Let me just say that those are some tough women out there and it is awesome what they can do! Maybe if I was more experienced with roller skating, I’d give it a try, but I’m not sure if I have what it takes. In addition to the derby, they were some local crafters selling things and there was a local brewery and coffee shop selling drinks. If you ever have the chance to check out a roller derby I highly recommend it!
