This summer is basically just flying by. I seriously can’t believe it is August already. Dan and I have not been swimming in the lake once and I told him that we have to change that next weekend. So hopefully on Friday when we are both off we will be lounging at a beach and swimming in Lake Michigan!
Last weekend we spent some time in Logan Square, starting with brunch at Same Day Cafe. The cafe is adorable and they make their own sodas! My favorite thing about it has to be that the space used to be a dry cleaners, hence the name. It used to be called Alex Cleaners and there was a painted sign out front. They sort of painted over the letters except for the “c”, “a”, and “e” in cleaners and changed the “n” to an “f” so it reads Cafe on the outside.
For brunch Dan and I both go the avocado toast with a sunny side egg on top. It was absolutely delicious. It was only one piece of toast, but they piled it high with pickled onions and carrots, avocado, and queso fresco, so we left feeling full. We both want to try their ham and cheese sandwich with an egg on top next time because it sounds just like a croque madame (which was our favorite thing to eat in Paris on our honeymoon).
After lunch we went to Wicker Park to do some shopping including getting some records. Then since we were there we clearly had to get some Jeni’s Ice Cream. My favorite seasonal flavor is their Atlantic Beach Pie, which is described as Sweet Cream layered with tart lemon pudding and saltine gravel. Based on the classic Southern pie. I wouldn’t be surprised if we found ourselves there again next weekend.
